The first of 22 MiG-29 Fulcrums for the Bulgarian Airforce was delivered in June 1989. Among the 22 received were four twoseater MiG-29UBs. Between 1989 and 2000 the MiG-29s flew from Ravnets airbase near the Black Sea. They relocated to Graf Ignatievo airbase in central Bulgaria during 2000 and 2001. Currently a modification programme is underway to upgrade the remaining 21 MiG-29s. This is done in close cooperation with the RSK-MiG factory at the BVVS overhaulcentre located at Graf Ignatievo.
